Transgender Surgery

Lawrenceville Plastic Surgery follows the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) guidelines for transgender surgery. Documentation from an appropriate therapist or counselor is required before surgery.

Patients with smaller breasts can have the entire surgery performed through a peri-areolar incision. lf only breast tissue is being removed, the scar generally runs from the 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock position. lf some excess skin needs to be addressed, a doughnuttype pattern is used.

In those patients with a large amount of breast tissue and/or ptosis, a double-incision technique is utilized along with nipple-areolar grafting. There is a high success rate with this method of dealing with the nipples, although sensation and erectile function of the nipples is permanently altered.
