Winter Skin Survival Guide

It's coming. The Winter Wonderland of holiday scenery, hot chocolate and playing in the snow. And with that comes blizzards, wind-chill and dry climate. So the annual Winter Skin Survival Guide is back! Reminders of some oldie-but-goodies from years past, and some new additions too, with tips of how to manage now that the skin is producing less hydration and struggling to compensate for the elements. And again - saved the best for last!!!

Great Barrier Relief
As the climate becomes more arid and wind an cold increases, the environment literally sucks the moisture from the skin. The "barrier function" of the epidermis keeps water-rich internal organs down to the tiniest cells would dry out and deteriorate. The skin barrier also acts as a dam, allowing just enough water to enter the body without flooding it. But this function becomes compromised due to natural cellular aging, injury(i.e. lasers) and environment. Ingredients like glycerin and squalane, found in Cream Cleanser and White Lightening Complex, reinforce the barrier function and rejuvenate skins natural lipids. Vitamin B3, found in PolyVitamin Serum and Resurfacing Mask, also reinforces barrier function by stimulating microcirculation and increasing ceramide levels which prevents water loss and creates resiliency. And limit those hot showers!!! - while they may feel like soothing relief from the cold, prolonged exposure to hot water can further break down the barrier function.

Helping Hands
The skin on your hands is much thinner and has fewer oil glands than the rest of the body, therefore dry out much faster in cold, dry weather. Glove-up when going outside! Wool may be warmer, but can cause more irritation on already dry skin

Strip Down
Removing build up of cells and debris is always integral to looking fresh-faced, and in the winter climate is essential to ensure skin isn't blocked from absorbing moisture. Active Serum, Poly Vitamin, Youth Complex and White Lightening feature controlled exfoliation agents to keep pores clear and remove the chapped, chafed surface to reveal more vibrant skin.

Hydrate with Hyaluronic
A good cream or lotion moisturizer is essential, but sometimes no matter how emollient, the skin still feels "parched" deep down. Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant that draws out moisture, and serves as a big drink of water deep within the dermis. iS Clinical products featuring hyaluronic acid: Hydra Cool, Poly Vitamin, Youth Complex, Youth Eye Complex, White Lightening, Super Serum, Firming Complex and Body Complex.

See a professional
Your skin has different needs in January that it does in July! Encourage your clientele to come in for a "seasonal Skin Analysis" to account for changes in climate and lifestyle. Offer a complimentary Eye Bright Treatment as an incentive to book their consultation.

"Fire and ice" makes everything nice!
Medical grade skin care services with the change of each season serve as a great "reset" button. The Innovative "Fire and lce" Resurfacing Treatment deep cleans, exfoliates, smoothes, hydrates and encourages cell-renewal ... with the seasonal scents of Pumpkin (fire) and Candy Cane (ice)!

Block it Out
Even with snow on the ground the sun still shines, and is intensified as it reflects off the snow. UV/environmental protection is as important in January as it is in July! Block UV absorption with time-released vitamin c formulas ProHeal or Super Serum, and top it off with Treatment Sunscreen as your AM moisturizer.

Pucker Up
Just like hands, the thinner skin of the lips are hyper-sensitive to the elements without sebum glands. Slather your skin care products, especially eye products, containing hyaluronic acid and mild exfoliants on the lips as well, Then seal it in with a lip balm with Vitamin E and SPF.

Healing and Sealing
Olive Leaf Extract, a potent antioxidant and antibiotic, is also a powerful anti-inflammatory agent (rosacea, windburn) and decreases trans-epidermal water loss. Layer ProHeal Serum with Treatment Sunscreen in the AM for a double-dose!

Take Your Vitamins
Vitamins A, C, and E are power antioxidants, and B Vitamins are the basis of healthy skin, hair and nails. Strengthen the skin and its ability to overcome the elements with products featuring these vitamins such as Hydra Cool, Poly Vitamin, Super Serum, ProHeal Serum, White Lightening Complex, Youth Complex, Youth Eye Complex, Moisturizing Complex. Treatment Sunscreen and Body Complex.

...And saving the best for last..

Drink a Champagne toast to Great skin
The fermented grapes in champagne are a great source of antioxidants, and dab a drop on the cheeks for a dose of Tartaric Acid to tone and brighten the skin !!

Wishing you a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season !!
